Ciao from Romaaaa!

Hi friends!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post; this summer has been crazy! I spent 3 weeks in Pantelleria (a small Sicilian island) working on an archaeological dig for my BISP. It was much more physically taxing than I anticipated, but I wasn’t mad about it. We spent the first week clearing the site, so that involved cutting down huge trees with machetes/axes/etc. and carrying them from site, etc. Everyone thought it was shocking that a small girl could do such things…then I told them I play rugby. While there I was able to work out pretty frequently. My friend and I went for long runs and the view was beautiful! We also did a lot of cross fits. My personal fav involved the use of our driveway (75m long and the steepest of hills):

x4
75m sprint up the hill
30 Air Squats
25 Crunches
10 Push-Ups
20 Burpees
15 Star Jumps
Then lunge (alternating legs) down the hill

A good running spot in Pantelleria.

After my stay in Pantelleria I traveled all around Sicily for 3 more weeks to do more BISP research. I was still able to run, do cross-fits, etc., but I did a lot more hiking up to and scurrying around ancient ruins. Twas more exhausting than one would imagine, especially under the blazing Mediterranean sun. Totally worth it though because I've seen SO much incredible art, architecture, archaeological sites, etc. Here are two of my favs:

Temple of Concordia at Agrigento
Greek Theater at Taormina.

Yesterday I flew to Rome and soon discovered there was a strike, so the Metro and buses weren’t running. I decided it wouldn’t be TOO awful to walk 2 miles to the hotel my Classics friend from Brown was staying at, but with my 50lb suitcase and the heat it was not ideal, haha. I counted that as my workout for the day.

This is what I did today since there was a second day of strike and I was stuck at home:

99 Jumping Jacks
99 Crunches
99 Sec Wall Sit
99 Leg Lifts
9 Push-ups

88 Jumping Jacks
88 Crunches
88 Second Wall Sit
88 Leg Lifts
8 Push-Ups

Then you repeat each cycle of JJ, Crunches, Wall sits, Leg Lifts, and Push-Ups for 77, 66, 55, 44, 33, and 22 as well but that is too tedious to type.

Then I ran for a bit, and when I came home I discovered 20lb DBs:
4x8 Shoulder Press
4x12 Curl
4x15 Triceps

Then had a nice, LONG, and much needed stretch.

Kay, well, I miss you all tons!!

  1. I love your workout. The best workouts come when you start to improvise and adjust according what is challenging you and what's building you up. I like what I'm seeing!
